CCSAPP engages in community work which addresses underage drinking and prescription drug abuse, as well as other prevalent substances of abuse. CCSAPP tailors its strategies by focusing on youth and the people and environment that influence their behavior.

  • Teen Summit

For the first time in February of 2011, Cabell County Schools and the Cabell County Substance Abuse Prevention Partnership partnered to bring Cabell County students together for a Teen Summit.  Students attended three workshops:  Power of Choice:  Every Decision Has a Consequence, One Drink is All it Takes: Prevention of Underage Drinking and Who Has Your Back: Building a Support System.  Students also participated in the following focus group:  Survey of teen perceptions, norms, and attitudes of substance abuse.  The Cabell County Teen Summit had 153 students in attendance and turned out to be a great success.

Cabell County Schools and CCSAPP will collaborate again to host the Cabell County Teen Summit on March 28, 2012, from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The purpose of this event is to engage young people in contributing to the development of safe, healthy and drug-free communities.

Students will participate in two workshops, a focus group and the ThinkFast® game show.  The goal of the game show is to provide continuous intervention and education which, in turn, will help to reinforce and sustain the effects of the prevention message.  We are very excited to bring ThinkFast® to Cabell County!

We will be contacting the middle and high schools in January with more details to follow.

  • Project Sticker Shock
    • Project Sticker Shock allows Cabell County students to send a message to adults that providing alcohol to minors is illegal, unhealthy and unacceptable. Students, with adult supervision, visit local convenience stores to place stickers on alcohol products. Students also hang window clings on cooler doors. Placing stickers at the point of sale targets both retail and social access to alcohol.

  • 21 Means 21 video
    • Cabell County youth recently put a personal spin on drug and alcohol prevention on a state-wide scale.  Students from Huntington Middle School entered and won the "21 Means 21" public service announcement by submitting a draft showing a youth choosing one of two paths. One includes underage drinking and the consequences. The other shows the same youth choosing to obey the law and derives better chances of success because of it. The PSA can be seen across the state during the 2011-2012 school year.
  • Most of Us
    • Most of Us is a positive social norms marketing campaign targeted to sixth to 12th grade students in Cabell County. All data is based on the 2010-2011 PRIDE survey data taken by Cabell County students in grades six through 12.
